Trefelin is located 2 miles from the medieval town of Newport, known as 'the jewel in the crown' of North Pembrokeshire. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path follows the seaward edge of the parish, giving stunning views of Dinas Island, Morfa Head, Carningli Mountain and Newport Bay. The two largest beaches are Traeth Mawr (Big Beach, or Newport Sands) on the northern side of the Nevern Estuary, and The Parrog, ever popular with boat enthusiasts, on the south side.
The Nevern Estuary is teeming with wildlife and is a favourite bird watching location. Carningli (Angel Mountain) stands to the south of Newport, with standing stones, Iron Age forts and Bronze Age hut circles. The town also boasts an historic castle and parish church, and many historic traditions (including the Court Leet) are kept alive.
